  • Garnet

Garnet is a mineral used as gemstones and abrasives. Garnets are most often seen in red, but are available in a wide variety of colours including orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, pink and colourless. The rarest of these is the blue garnet.  It is the birthstone for the month of January.

  • Gauss

The unit of intensity of a magnetic field; a unit of magnetic flux density equal to 1 maxwell per square centimeter.

  • Gear train

  • Glass (crystal)

Thin plate of glass or transparent synthetic material, for protecting the dials of watches, clocks etc.

  • Gold

Gold is a highly sought-after precious metal which occurs as grains in rocks.  It is a dense, soft, shiny, yellow metal, and is the most malleable and ductile of the known metals.  The gold content of jewellery alloys is measured in carats (k), pure gold being designated as 24k. It is, however, more commonly sold in lower measurements of 22k, 18k, 14k and 10k. A lower "k" indicates a higher percent of silver, copper or other base metals in the alloy, copper being the more commonly used base metal.  Although the price of some platinum group metals can be much higher, gold has long been considered the most desirable of precious metals.  Gold has been used as a symbol for purity, value, royalty, and particularly roles that combine these properties.

  • Goldplated

A layer of gold electroplated to a base metal.
