Rolex - New Oyster Perpetual Milgauss
-
2007-07-10
Rolex unveiled the new Oyster Perpetual Milgauss model at Baselworld. The watch is resistant to a magnetic flux density of 1,000 gauss. Initially introduced in the 1950s, the Milgauss movement & magnetic shield allow the watch to achieve exceptional performance when subjected to intense magnetic fields.
Rolex achieved the superior rating of the Milgauss by encasing the movement in soft iron, which is known as a Faraday cage. They also introduced a new hairspring material, Parachrom-Blu, which is unaffected by magnetism.
