Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe - the Swedish silversmith and designer - has left her mark on Georg Jensen by way of beautiful, understated ladies watches.
Vivianna Torun's designs make a strong impression with its simplicity and straightforward beauty. She turned silver and gold into sensuous and innovative designs with intrinsic quality. A common theme running through many of Vivianna Torun’s design is a sense of continual movement. There is no beginning or end to the design: the object seems to flow with a life of its own. Subtle twists and turns encourage the eye to continually move. Her philosophy was that jewellery should be a natural extension of the female contours and not a status symbol. To her, jewellery is supposed to show the inner nature of a woman, not the outward status of a man.
Over the years, Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe created many designs with a strong presence for Georg Jensen. Most renowned is the iconic bangle watch. She was invited to take part in an exhibition Antagonism II – l’object in 1962 at the Musée des Arts Décoratif at the Louvre where she exhibited an organically swung open bangle with a mirror face devoid of numbers and only a seconds hand. Georg Jensen included this watch to the collection in a more user-friendly version with hour and minute hands incorporating the functionality of a watch and the beauty of a piece of jewellery.
Vivianna Torun Bülow-Hübe’s designs have been showed in many exhibitions and she was awarded the Lunning Price and Gold Medal at the Triannial in Milan. Vivianna Torun was an immensely gifted artist, and with her timeless design so full of life reflecting her own intensely captivating personality, her distinctive imprint on the design world will live on.
